Online Feedback and Student Emotions

Abstract

There are two types of students’ performance evaluation mechanisms called formative and summative. At these evaluation processes, the student should receive a constructive feedback. A constructive feedback for a particular situation should at least consists of three features, i.e. Appreciation, Advice, and, Evaluation. When incorporating the appreciation to a feedback in an online education system, the emotions have to be automatically detected. The most feasible way to analyze the emotions is through the facial expressions in an online education system and giving the feedback considering the other factors along with the emotion. However, in some situations, the body cue is also to be taken into account when deciding the emotion of a person. This attempt is to check how reliable it is to analyze only the facial expressions to decide the students’ emotions in an online education system.
