A Recursive Programming-based Software Engineering Pedagogy for Non-Colonial Computing

Abstract

One important factor towards teaching and learning software engineering is an evaluation of the meta-cognition that takes place around the class and ensuring the correctness of the cognitive factor of teaching and learning. The Literate programming paradigm is considered unconventional as it deviates from the computer-imposed methods by giving power to the programmer to follow the order dictated by logic and their algorithmic thoughts, mixing human language with macros and code fragments with primitive markups as separator. Recursive Learning involves building a community of live-long learners where knowledge transfer is achieved recursively. There are lots of cultural barriers against females enrolling in the STEM field in Northern Nigeria; of utmost concern is the notion that programming and software engineering is a non-feminine area and as such, a lot of female students are discouraged from enrolling in SWE courses. Egoless programming is an un-orthodox software engineering practice where two programmers collaborate by working side-by-side using one computer keyboard and contributing equally to the design, implementation and testing of the software. This is difficult to achieve in a cultural setting where learners of different sexes are not allowed to work together in close proximities. In this presentation, I will present RecuLite, a hybrid ML technology obtained to break barriers and defeat colonial computing in order to build a community of female programmers among students in a Northern Nigeria college. Using controlled experiments, the paper would show the rise in the wave of interests in the Design and Implementation of evolutionary software systems.
