Covid-19 News Avoidance in Vietnam

Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic has been happening for more than 2 years. From the bloom of information at the early stage, recent studies observe the news avoidance in the audiences in the UK. However, there is no research about this behaviour in Asian regions where the pandemic has had less impact so far. This study used the S-O-R model and longitude survey to test the factors that influence the news avoidance behavior on audiences in Vietnam. The results show that the Vietnamese audiences tend to avoid the news with negative information and support the news providing the solutions in the pandemic. They also want to see the stories of those who have been actively involved in the pandemic. Our findings suggested the story development for the newsroom in the pandemic to get more readers in Vietnam and other countries.
