Politics Participation in Chinese Internet Public Sphere by Multiple Social Subjects in Big Era

Abstract

Network media has opened up new ways for the general public to participate in politics, becoming more and more important in the public sphere in China. Firstly this paper sorts out the roles of the general public, mainstream media and government departments in internet public sphere and describe actual operating conditions in China on the basis of analysis on two online hot topics - Chongqing bus plunge caused by fight between driver and passenger and Chinese woman’s tearful protest on Mercedes hood. In China, the reliability and completeness of information, access mechanisms, and participation rules of network operation platforms and active intervention and response of government subdivisions at all levels are three main influencing factors affecting the functions of three governance subjects in internet public sphere. Only by taking advantage of professionalism and artificial intelligence to ensure the reliability of information and free flow of diverse views; optimizing and integrating network application platforms for multi-subjects to participate; and breaking barriers among different government subdivisions to make full use of big data can the functions of multi-social governance subjects be promoted in the Chinese internet public sphere.
