Paradigm Shift in Media Theories and the Twenty-first Century Challenge

Abstract

A paradigm shift in media theory is a transformation from one organizing theoretical perspective to another. A good number of theories in the twenty-first century are driven, determined, and influenced mostly by technology. These technologies have fundamentally altered the tenets, nature, and functions of media theories. The purpose of these studies is to systematically examine and discuss how evolving trends impinged on the mainstream and new media, and in what ways the media theories can be related to the operations of the emerging media. This research tries to highlight and identify the areas that media theories and practices hinged on. The research looked at the various research conducted in the past and the media theories used in that research. Content analyses of eight (8) communication journals was conducted, in which samples was drawn purposefully and analyzed. Based on this, the study intends to identify the reason and implication on shift in the use of media theories among researchers.
