Abstract

This article explores the idea of social media as a veritable and quick information dissemination platform rather than the passive nature of the traditional media in today’s democracy and this transformational age. Communication is life and without communication, then, life is lifeless. This work looks at the potency of social media as far as information dissemination is concerned, however, it also lay prominence on its radicalism of getting messages across to the people with devices to get information in democracy where there should be freedom of speech. The theoretical works which the study was hanged on were: knowledge gap theory uses and gratification as well as technology determinism, which shows how faster information influences individuals. Survey method was adopted for this study while findings reveals figures of current active users to show its radicalism while the work also shows that despite its fire brand, originators kept on working daily to add new tools and features to make it a market leader.
