The Perspective of Iranian Contemporary Art in the Middle Eastern Market

Abstract

One of the most significant aspects of Iranian contemporary art is the role of Iranian artists in the Middle East. The features of this role are often represented in auctions and Art Market, so the artists who have tried to introduce Iranian identity by focusing on the traditional motifs and ideas are more celebrated. It is obvious that, involving the Iranian contemporary art as a global art is influenced by the Art Market and the Western viewpoints of Orientalism. This study shows that how much the so-called “Iranian art” represents Middle Eastern art really reflects the characteristics of Iranian contemporary art. In this way, two categories of artists have been examined; first, the artists well known in the middle east art and second, the artists who are known in Iran but not involved in global market. The study examines why some Iranian artists are not accepted in the global mainstream, specifically in Middle East art. In this research, the reflection theory has been used. Analyzing these two categories, the research represents a balanced image of the Iranian contemporary art outside and inside the country.
