Abstract
As the use social media continue to increase in Nigeria, various cultural values have been put to test especially regarding relationships within the family. This work presents the result of research on the impact of social media on the relationship of couples in Nigeria. The work uses communication as a tool to determine how social media affect the interpersonal relationship among couples. A survey on Nigerian couples reveals that social media has done more harm than good to couples as they spend more time on their media devices. The result revealed that couples in Nigeria are addicted to social media ignoring personal interaction with each other. Although social media sometimes serve as a form of communication between couples, the study found that social media also limits the interpersonal relationship between a couple. This creates distance between couples changing the agenda of the mainstream media.
