Abstract

This study is based on online media reports about transgender (Waria) phenomenon in Indonesia. Generally, the discussion on transgender is still taboo in Indonesia, but Okezone.com as an online media, dare to report the plan of fiqh (Islamic religious law) making specifically for transgender, named Waria Fiqh. The fiqh is expected to be a reference for the transgender community in conducting religious activities, especially for transgender who is Muslim. Islam itself is a religion that has separated laws and rules of religion between men and women. This study also using framing media of Robert N. Entman. According to Entman, framing is the selection process and highlights some aspects of a situation to promote a particular interpretation. Interpretation generally comes from an interconnected narrative of (1) Define Problems; (2) Diagnose Causes; (3) Moral Judgement; (4) and Treatment Recommendations. The results of this study are: (1) in the Definition Problems, Okezone.com has written a report about the making of Waria Fiqh for transgender; (2) in the Diagnose Causes, the making of Waria Fiqh necessary so that transgenders can still live their religious-life after gender-changing; (3) in the Moral Judgement, transgender is considered to have equal rights for religion and worship; (4) in the Treatment Recommendations, The Waria Fiqh is expected to be a jurisprudence religion for transgender in the spirit of equality and humanize human.
