Identifying Communicative Skill Levels of University Students: An Evaluation within the Framework of Demographic Variables

Abstract

Communication can be regarded as one of the basic skills for sustaining everyday life. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of communication skills of university students at the undergraduate level. For this purpose, a sample questionnaire was applied consisting of a group of 350 students who were educated in Karabük University Faculty of Business during the spring semester of 2017-2018 education year. Demographic variables included in the questionnaire were mapped to likert type scaled expressions aimed at measuring communication skill level. As a result of the study, it has been seen that the students are different in communication skill levels that consisted mental, emotional and behavioral dimensions. In addition to this, it has been determined that the students differ in terms of demographic variables. It can be said that the emotional communication skills of the students are improved more than the mental and behavioral communication skills.
