Mobital Lifestyle in Student Society : A Study in State Universities in Tehran

Abstract

Today, young students in Iran, use mobile devices, in particular smart phones, for everyday life including study, work and social life. With an Internet penetration rate of 70 percent and a 104 percent mobile penetration and 81 percent of young people (18 to 29 years old) on social networks in Iran, we could say that digital native students are experiencing a “connected life” and are defining “Mobile young culture” and they are building their mobital (mobile & digital) lifestyle. However, it is not clear to us yet what challenges dose this new lifestyle have for young students and how do they encounter them. Purpose: Understanding the lived-experience of students from the Mobital lifestyle and its challenges. Methodology: This qualitative research is based on grounded theory. We use Deep Interview Technique to collect data from students. Data analyzing is done simultaneously with the collection. This research is done in the state universities in Tehran, among which three Allameh Tabataba’i (Humanities), Sharif (industrial and technical sciences) and Tehran (medical sciences) universities are selected with purposive sampling. We expect to conclude by coding paradigm (the phenomenon, the context, the causal conditions, the strategies, the intervening conditions, and the consequences).
