Ideologies in Media, Manipulation, and Propaganda

Abstract

It is understood that politics are intrinsic to the existence of the individual in society, both in the public space (polis) and at the level of the citizen (politicus). In this paper proposal, it is considered that the control over communication and media does not necessarily mean that such power is exercised politically, but more that it is contained in politics (Weber, 1924). This is an important aspect of Habermasian thought needed for a critical analysis of contemporary democracy. According to Jürgen Habermas, to broadcast ideas through the process of appropriation from the public space by systematizing the public space (Öffentlichkeit) in its complex and dynamic magnitude shows a relationship that proposes an agreement by reason. Indeed, the actions manifest themselves in the public space and seek to achieve consensus. Thus, it is important to analyze the communication between human beings focused on scientific research into the compatibilities and incompatibilities of technological convergence and the possible convergence for socio-political means. Lastly, many academic discussions have arisen about political ideologies in media, such as the global reach of democracy, a subject put forward for reflection in the field of human studies, communications, and media studies.
