Abstract
Food security encompasses a broad range of factors that influence national food policies, covering all aspects of a country. To develop a priority food list that considers various aspects, it is important to determine the dietary food list consumed at the national level. This can be performed using different methods, such as food composition tables or 24-hour recall surveys. This study utilized data from the Food Balanced Sheet (FBS), Food Commodity List (FCL), and Supply Utilization Accounts (SUA) of the FAO, as well as food frequency data from household surveys, to develop a priority matrix for food (PMIXF). This matrix helps set a priority food list based on different national aspects, as there is currently no national food composition table available. A total of 99 households were included in the study, but only 34 were analyzed because of incomplete information. The PMIXF was developed to prioritize food items according to 11 food groups, which were estimated based on the frequency of consumption from household surveys and national food supply. This matrix can serve as a valuable national tool for food security and as a helpful resource for research in areas such as agriculture, nutrition, and public health. However, future validation is necessary to use this tool at the national level.
