Abstract
This study assesses the digital education and advisory needs of rice growers in Punjab, Pakistan, in relation to the recommended use of pesticides. The study participants were rice growers from various districts in Punjab. 332 rice growers were selected randomly. Face to face interviews were conducted and data collected by researcher visits to respondents. Data were analyzed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Results show a high level of interest among rice growers in receiving digital educational information on pesticide use. The results of the study show that approximately half of the rice growers (50.3%) had some knowledge of the recommended use of pesticides. The majority of rice growers (67%) obtained information about pesticides from agricultural extension workers. However, only 25.9% of rice growers used digital technology to obtain information about pesticides. λ = 0.216, p = .002 show a significant and negative relation among the variables. It means, highly qualified (above matriculation) rice growers’ need of training is less as compared to illiterate and up to primary passed rice growers. However, many respondents express a need for more hands-on training and access to knowledgeable advisors. Based on the findings, recommendations are made to improve the delivery of digital education and advisory services to rice growers in the region, to ensure safe and effective pesticide use.
