Abstract
The new global strategy for infant and young child feeding that promote, protect and support the good health of the infant and mother as recommended by World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) World-wide for the proper growth and development of new born baby up to six months of age is exclusive breastfeeding. Research studies has shown that this has not been well studied in Nigeria. Hence, this study examined perceived effects of exclusive breastfeeding among infants in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State. Data was collected from three hundred respondents. Chi- Square (X2) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of the study revealed that exclusive breastfeeding will not significantly have mental effects of exclusive breastfeeding among infants in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State. It further revealed that there will be significant physical and malnutrition effects of exclusive breastfeeding among infants in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State. The researcher recommended that mothers who practice exclusive breastfeeding should be encouraged to eat adequate and balanced diet to help the flow of the breast milk and nursing mothers should be made to observe their four months maternity leave without interruptions.
