Abstract
Food fosters togetherness and many dietary practices in Asia are shaped not just by culture but also religious beliefs. Most people make the choice to eat or avoid certain foods based on their religious belief. Religious beliefs exert a strong influence on food habits, particularly through food laws such as taboos imposed on consumptions of certain food items. This leads to many fascinating, culturally and theologically significant foods. Sharing food with those from different cultures and beliefs can tune us to grow closer to our global community and become more sensitive to the differences between cultures and religions. Chef Devagi Sanmugam shares stories and recipes of some food served at religious celebrations in Asia.
