Abstract

The urbanization resulting from the process of Brazilian industrialization, after World War II, has influenced the infrastructural aspects of large centers, through the development and production of consumer goods, generating population growth in the urban network, resulting in socioeconomic structural problems regarding health and Social issues, causing, among other problems, food insecurity. Urban Agriculture, an agricultural production activity within urban spaces, may promote the food security of those who practice it. Thus, the objective of the study was to analyze the impact of Urban Agriculture on Food Security. The study was conducted in community gardens in the city of Maringá, using the EBIA method suitable for urban agriculture, with procedures of descriptive statistical analysis and multiple linear regression. These community gardens were implemented as part of an environmental policy of the city hall of a city in the countryside of the Parana State, Brazil. It was identified that the activity has not been contributed to food security for individuals who depend on the resources generated, whether for consumption or income.
