The Politics of Being Christian in Britain in a Time of Decline and Culture Wars

Abstract

This paper examines the decline of Christian belief in Britain and the rising cases of Christian discrimination in the tribunals and courts. It discusses the sociological aspects which are contributing to conflict and culture wars in the arena of public debate, where British Christians are labelled as being ‘extreme’, ‘fundamental’ or ‘right-wing’. As the trajectory for religiosity in Britain declines with the rise of non-believers, will Christians find the manifestation of their belief censored out of the public domain?
