Metaverse, Matrix and Maya: Exploring the Virtual Reality of Metaverse to Decode the Spiritual Reality of Bhagawad Gita

Abstract

Using the latest fintech innovation, Metaverse, my research work explores the emerging domain of techno-philosophy. According to David Chalmers (2022), techno-philosophy, as opposed to Philosophy of Technology, helps us to shed light on ancient questions in philosophy. The research adopts a critical discourse analysis of the work of techno-philosophers (such as Nick Bostrom, Rizwan Virk and David Chalmers) and builds a theoretical framework linking the concepts of reality, knowledge and values in the virtual words of Metaverse. The framework is then used to further explore the way in which Lord Krishna deals with similar concepts (Maya, Jnana and Dharma) in his discourse with Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. The research work thus provides a new philosophical lens to policy makers attempting to regulate the conduct of developers and users of Metaverse. At the same time, it also contributes to the existing body of literature on the Gita by leveraging the fintech concepts underpinning the Metaverse, in a novel manner.
