The country’s diverse religious landscape is characterized by a significant Muslim population, and this study delves into the dynamics shaping Islamic practices and their impact on the construction of individual and collective identities The research investigates how religious spaces, ranging from mosques to educational institutions, serve as crucibles for the negotiation and expression of Islamic identity. Examining the historical context, the study traces the evolution of Islam in Nigeria, exploring its integration into local cultures and its role in shaping the socio-political landscape. It scrutinizes the influence of Sufi traditions, the spread of Islamic education, and the impact of global Islamic movements on local identity formations. Furthermore, the research probes the ways in which Islam intersects with other social and cultural factors, fostering a complex tapestry of identities. It scrutinizes the nuances of identity formation, addressing issues of gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic status within the Muslim community. By employing a multidisciplinary approach that combines historical analysis, ethnographic research, and sociological perspectives, this study aims to contribute to a nuanced understanding of the intricate relationship between Islam, religious spaces, and identity formation in the Nigerian context. The findings hold implications for fostering religious tolerance, social cohesion, and cultural diversity in a nation marked by its rich religious tapestry.
