Abstract
Turkey has been the focus of international attention for the recent years. Once labelled as the sample democracy of the Muslim world, then a problematic autocracy; social anthropologists are puzzled to understand what has gone wrong with it. This paper looks into the role of Fethullah Gulen in shaping the country. It analyses how Gulen movement emerged and shaped the Turkish society. It looks into the chain of events which eventually led the 15 Juo-failed coup attempt and the consequences of it. It tries to set out and connect the event which resulted in the fall of the allies; that is, Fethullah Gulen and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of the Republic of Turkey. It concludes that the religion has been the key force in all the turbulent events that the world has witnessed. It may as well be the solution of Turkey’s problem in particular and the region in general.
