Memorizing the Quar'an through the Integration of Internal and External Representational Models

Abstract

The nature of human brain requires a compatibility between projected information occurring in the brain (internal representation) and presented information by external environment (external representation). The process also suggests the importance of internal and external integration into a model that can be used and applied by teachers in teaching and learning contexts. In this study, the developed internal and external representation models for memorizing the Qur’an was operationally integrated on conditioning and encoding levels. The internal representation is implicit while the external representation is explicit. To find out the integration of internal representation in the conditioning and coding levels, researchers administered a learning style test. The test results would determine required external representation types. While the principles of Neurolinguistics programming were applied during the integration of external representation on the conditioning level, by considering students’ learning styles, the researchers conducted adjustments to the meaning and representations of the Quran verses which would be memorized by students.
