Nexus of Servant Leadership with Firm Innovativeness, Mediating Role of Intrinsic Motivation: An Empirical Study in Pakistan

Abstract

In this global era only, those companies can grow and survive which bring constant changes in their work routine. Companies can only bring these changes by making their organizations more innovative. Innovative culture is not only the need of the market but it helps companies gain competitive edge and sustainability. With social exchange theory providing a base and using firms innovativeness as lens, the center of this study is to establish the relationship between Servant Leadership (SL) and firm innovativeness (FI). In addition, the study also examines role of Intrinsic Motivation (IM) to link association between servant leadership and intrinsic motivation. Simple random sampling technique was used to collect data through questionnaire with a sample size of 258. The data was collected from employees of IT sector of Pakistan. Furthermore, Structured Equation Modeling (AMOS) was employed to test the hypotheses of this study. Results indicate that Servant leadership is positively associated with firm innovativeness. Moreover, mediating role of Intrinsic Motivation was also found to be significant in establishing the connection between servant leadership and firm innovativeness. The study added knowledge to the limited body of literature on the topic in IT (Information Technology) sector of Pakistan. IT industry leaders must design the framework and culture where employee can exercise best effort to enhance their potential towards firms’ innovation.
