Abstract
This paper presents the phenomenon of organizing artistic performances in urban spheres in the context of contemporary challenges. Street performances, as a form of intangible heritage common for urban public sphere over the world, have long and rich tradition. As the world is constantly changing and facing new challenges, the practice of organizing street performances has to be adjusted to emerging requirements of urban sphere management and sustainability. The paper presents the results of ethnographic research, conducted from 2012 to 2022 in the central areas of several Polish cities. The research outcomes highlight the need for a theoretical and practical reflection on the performative art activity in the urban sphere, to satisfactorily consider and combine various ambitions of diversified social groups interested in using urban sphere, both for public and commercial use. To sum up, the paper refers to challenges of sustainability and regulations in organizing street performances in a constantly changing environment.
