Social Embeddedness of Fresh Milk Development Program under Creating Shared Value Concept: A Case Study of Transformation in East Java Province

Abstract

After more than 36 years, East Java province has been able to deliver successful transformation of fresh milk quality through various fresh milk development programs. Hence, Indonesia is still importing 80% of its milk products. This research digs deeper to micro levels of the difficulties faced by dairy farmers to implement programs, which need to be recognized and as learning point for future improvement. Through Soft Systems Methodology, complex problematic fresh milk development is analyzed with qualitative approach. The multi-dimentional layers are transformed into a rich picture to find the root cause by studying the social embeddedness of dairy farmers in rural areas of East Java. The proposed program may help dairy farmers to keep their sustainable income and to survive in the competitive world.
