Developing Culture and Climate: LGBTQ+ Embedded Systems

Abstract

In this session, the presenter shares an overview and development of LGBTQ+ support over the last six years in schools as well as how this process initially began. Participants will learn how community/resources were integrated, learn of ways to build internal and external collaborations, how to increase capacity, and review some of the resources provided to staff within an urban school district of 93,000 students. These trainings recognize and address the needs of our diverse student population and ways to build their networks towards a more inclusive organizational culture. Learning outcomes include understanding diverse student populations in a majority-minority school district, learning of terms/resources, reflection through activities and prompts, and creating safe and welcoming schools/communities.
