TQM and Change in Organizations

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present a systematic literature review to identify new avenues of research in line with the ongoing changes in quality and management required to firms. This study used systematic review of the literature to further improve our understanding of importance of total quality management in business performance with respect to four types of changes. For review purposes, we took literature on TQM from last eighteen years (2000-2018) by using the phrase “Total Quality Management and Change” as keyword. An analysis of the literature identified different clusters of papers and almost all of them focused on impact of Total Quality Management on organizational factors with respect to four types of organizational change i.e. process change, values (cultural) change, structural (functional change), changes in power, emphasizing their interactions and interrelatedness. The paper will also throw light on the barriers and facilitators to TQM implementation and change.
