Education and the Challenge of Change Management in the Cameroons: A History of Should Haves and Did Nots and Some Lessons

Abstract

Experiences with organizational performance has demonstrated that aiming for high output requires extensive and long term planning. It requires projections into the future of the economy and measures to equip ones manpower with the necessary knowledge, skills and aptitudes that will enable fit into that future. This paper is a historical assessment which draws from Cameroons’ experiences with British colonialism and argues that while such projections were made, they were not matched with appropriate action to ensure their attainment. The consequence at independence was a weak and unprepared managerial structure which led to the collapse of many government projects. This paper therefore discusses colonial transition as change management and hypothesizes that the outcome of such a transition depended and still depends of manpower training.
