Abstract
Education is a process whereby the mind is elevated to a higher dimension enabling the individual to understand and deal with life experiences from an informed perspective; “we must remember that intelligence alone is not enough. Intelligence plus character…that is the goal of true education” (Martin Luther King Jr.). Educational leaders that embrace inclusion help construct a rich learning environment where strength is derived from diversity. Educators must have a commitment and belief that all children are deserving of an education. Equality and inclusion are critical to making positive change the classroom. Change is ever present in modern education and requires educators to remain flexible, creative, and ethically grounded. Quality educational leaders can be summarized in three primary categories; visionary, instructional, and community. Visionary leadership demonstrates energy, commitment, and unwavering conviction that all children will learn at high levels. This type of leadership defies the status quo attitude, encouraging academic excellence, and setting growth goals for a diverse pool of students. Secondly, instructional leadership focuses on strengthening teaching and learning with every activity in the classroom. It is a constant focus on developing pedagogy as an active aspect of daily lessons, being intentional with every student interaction. Lastly, community leadership, this includes cultural outreach and embracing additional resources for student’s personal and academic development. Community leadership manifests awareness of schools’ role in society, valuing and maintaining close relationships with parents and others.
