Assessing the Impact of Knowledge Management Initiatives on the Service Quality of Library Professionals in Selected Private Universities in Ghana

Abstract

The effective management of employees’ knowledge has been described as a critical ingredient for organisation seeking to ensure sustainable strategic competitive advantage. This study was carried out to investigate the impact of knowledge management initiatives on employee capacity building. The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of knowledge management on employees’ capacity building and quality of services. The sample of the study constituted 300 professional and non-professional library staff from three universities located in different geo-political districts of the country were studied namely: University of Ghana, Legon; Central University, Miotso; and the Regional maritime University, Tema. The study also reveals that, in order for academic libraries to manage knowledge effectively, attention must be paid on three key components - staff, processes and infrastructure. In essence, to the ensure success of academic libraries’, the focus should be to connect people, processes, and technology for the purpose of leveraging knowledge.
