The Perceived Effects of the Synchronous Class Format on Benilde Senior High School Accountancy and Business Management Students' Communication Skills

Abstract

At present, the online classroom format is being applied to most educational establishments, thus allowing a clear demonstration of its implications to those experiencing it. This research paper has the primary objective of further expanding the understanding of how the new learning modality has provided its effects on the students of today, specifically on their communication development. The necessary data and information were gathered from DLS-CSB Batch 2022-2023 Accountancy and Business Management students, achieving a total of sixty [60] respondents, through the use of a stratified quota sampling technique–along with the utilization of a survey, which includes Likert-Scale questions that have emphasization on their level of agreement, the weighted mean for each question was then solved for which was then used to interpret the data from the survey. With the provided level of agreement questionnaire tackling different aspects of communication, the survey results have revealed that the current online classroom format has: (1) been impactful to the students’ communication development; (2) influenced the students’ communication skills; (3) its negative implications toward the students; and (4) apparent deficiencies that should be improved upon. The researchers then concluded through the use of a methodological triangulation–using their previous qualitative research about the same topic, that the communication status and progress of the students are frankly being affected by the synchronous setup. With that being stated, this research study strongly dwells on the anticipation of considering the findings and providing such solutions that will assuredly be beneficial to all students’ communication development.
