Home as Learning Space Post Pandemic: Understanding Importance of Learning Opportunities at Home Apart from Traditional Education in Schools

Abstract

Room to Read (RtR) is an organisation that works in education sector globally and aims to create a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality. Recently, the organisation has implemented a program named ‘Home as Learning Space’ (HLS) in Rajasthan and Jharkhand. This study conducted rigorous and evidence-based research on the implementation in these two states and the challenges that come up at school and community level. The aim of the research is to create a sustainable framework to monitor knowledge acquired at home through certain general indicators and include it formal education system. HLS is being implemented in Rajasthan and Jharkhand via RtR and is in a very initial phase at present. Conducting research at the initial phase would be likely to be more accurate in terms of what works in the society and what are the challenges to implement the same, and hence, creating a more sustainable system.
