Brain-Based Learning Theory: Implications for College Professors

Abstract

What we have learned from brain research and learning theory is not wholly compatible with the teaching styles preferred by many college professors. Professors are experts in their respective fields but often have little training in sound pedagogy. This paper shares current research about how the brain learns, and about learning theory. From this foundation, we consider implications for the college classroom setting. Teaching methods, class assignments, and assessment of student learning and teaching efficacy are the focus.
