Practising or Playing? : Exploring the Role of Educators as Game Designers, and Game Designers as Educators

Abstract

As the conversation around interactive video games and learner-inspired education intensifies, game designers and educators can become harder to distinguish from each other. Previously existing in unrelated professions, and now collaborating within similar roles in the creative industry. The way learners participate and engage is changing, and so is the collective expectation of knowledge-transfer within creative subjects. This paper examines the potential associations between educators and game designers. It also speculatively explores the future of these professions in relation to each other.
