A Multinational Review for Distance Education Applications in the Pandemic Process

Abstract

COVID19 has sent shockwaves across the globe. Schools were closed in 188 countries, affecting 92% of the student population worldwide. Therefore, alternative searches have come to the fore so that education will not be interrupted, and a rapid transition has been made to emergency distance education applications. In this process, the necessity and the importance of distance education has begun to be emphasized more than ever. Researchers stated that “the old normal is gone forever” and students will encounter more online and coeducational applications when they return to campus. At this point, the concept of “new normal” comes to the fore. A roadmap for the new normal should be put forward with the lessons learned and the experiences gained. In this context, examining the different paths followed by different countries, synthesizing the practices, and revealing a model will make significant contributions to the field. The goal is no longer to restore the education system to its original state; it is also to build a better future and to take the necessary initiatives for the “new normal”. This research, which aims to evaluate the pandemic process and to present a picture of different applications from different countries was designed as interpretive research. A comprehensive literature review was carried out and institutional web sites, academic studies, project reports, etc. was examined. Then, new and original applications, if any, were revealed and the most preferred applications on an international scale were determined. The data were conceptualized and are presented in a logical way.
