Intercultural Education in the Pre-service Foreign Languages Teacher Education

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a research project that seeks to understand how the intercultural dimension takes place and is taught in pre-service foreign languages teacher education programs. Our main objective is to analyze and compare the processes of intercultural training in two pre-service programs in Bogota. It is a qualitative study, characterized by a descriptive and interpretative approach since the focus of the project is to identify the relations that give meaning to the object of study: the training of pre-service language teachers and interculturality. We aim to make explicit what it is done in the programs and especially in the pedagogical and didactic components. We understand the intercultural education as the reflections, techniques, and visions that future teachers build up during their pedagogy and didactic courses about the explicit and interconnected teaching of language and culture.
