Abstract

The main objective of this study is to investigate early childhood education teachers’ perceptions regarding student readiness for primary school. The study was quantitative in nature. A self-developed questionnaire was used. 278 teachers were selected through proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed that there was consistency among ECE teachers’ views regarding student readiness. Teachers were aware about the primary goals of pre-school education, which are to prepare young children for primary level of education. Student readiness is a process which assists children to develop holistically in a variety of learning domains such as physical well-being, social and emotional development, language and communication, cognitive and mathematical skills, understanding the world, creative arts and so on.
