Abstract
This focused discussion considers the topic of experiential learning in the foreign language classroom and how it can impact language proficiency. As chair of a world languages department, I have many examples of different forms of experiential learning that are employed by instructors in my department. These include more obvious ones, like study abroad, as well as more unique ones that include international service-learning projects, virtual conversation exchanges and online gaming with native speakers in the target language. I would like to share what our experiences are with experiential learning, but I would also like to learn from others in the hopes that we can all help each other to expand the range of experiences we offer to our students in our efforts to improve their language skills and apply them in real-world contexts.
