Celebrating the Abundant Harvest: An Examination of the Significance of the Tinagba Festival in Iriga City

Abstract

The Tinagba Festival in Iriga City, Philippines, is emblematic of the region’s rich cultural heritage and agricultural traditions. This study delves into the multifaceted aspects of community participation in the festival, aiming to elucidate the factors influencing engagement and proposing strategies for fostering increased involvement. Through qualitative research method, including interviews, focus groups, participant observation, and content analysis, a comprehensive understanding of participation dynamics emerges. The investigation reveals a spectrum of participation levels among Iriga City residents, shaped by a myriad of factors such as socio-economic status and geographical proximity to festival sites. While cultural identity and familial traditions serve as significant motivators for engagement, challenges such as time constraints and limited awareness present barriers to participation. Despite these obstacles, residents overwhelmingly perceive the Tinagba Festival as a cornerstone of local identity and pride, underscoring its cultural significance. The study highlights existing efforts by the local government and tourism office to promote community engagement, including marketing campaigns and educational initiatives. However, respondents emphasize the need for more targeted interventions tailored to the diverse needs of different demographic groups. Recommendations stemming from the research findings include the implementation of comprehensive awareness campaigns, the development of inclusive programming catering to various age groups and interests, provision of financial assistance to marginalized communities, and the active involvement of residents in festival planning processes. By addressing these recommendations, local authorities can enhance community participation and ensure the enduring cultural relevance of the Tinagba Festival.
