Abstract
Nature tourism is an opportunity to engage biodiversity. For this, a planning proposal based on a responsible tourism model is necessary, which acts with a guarantee on the natural heritage and as a sustainable tourism product. Our objective is to evaluate the tourist potential and generate information for the sustainable tourist use of the Palo María river. Descriptive study method, data from the geographic information system (GIS) as well as the hierarchy of natural resources and MIDE for pedestrian excursions were used. Our results for the general attributes of the study area indicate a hierarchy level of 3.79 / 5, the main factors where it stands out are the 10/10 accessibility and the 21/18 characteristics that can be used for physical sports activities of nature. The natural resources associated with the Palo María river lack an adequate insertion in the tourist market at the same time that they reveal a low degree of management and planning. It is necessary to land proposals for use in relation to the characteristics of the resources that amplify sustainable tourism possibilities, such as physical sports activities of nature.
