Cultural Heritage of Maha Shivratri Fair of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India

Abstract

The scenic Himalayan region earned a significant place in the world’s cultural history. The hiking, tracking, river rafting with a blend of culture and religious cocktail make it unique experience for tourist and visitors. The festivals, fairs, and folklore, which are devoted to Lord Shiva add the pinch of salt to that life experience. The subsistence of the Shaiv tradition, is an integral part of life here. This tradition with many festivals and religious ceremonies is celebrated throughout the year.  Mandi Nagar has a historical, religious, cultural and  ‘colonial’ archaeological significance in India’s and world tourism. The most of these ancient sites (temples) are conserved, by Archaeological Survey of India. The best time for tourism to visit different areas of Himachal Pradesh when the festivals are celebrated with utmost reverence. In this paper, the Shivratri International Mela, Mandi which has been celebrated through year 1526, has been documented in this paper.
