Destination Choices Fashioned through Standard of Living

Abstract

The main reason for traveling for a tourist would be getting out of day-to-day life activities. According to Guillet et al. (2011), relaxation and rest are the most influential factors of traveling. In the most recent industry performance of tourism in the Philippines, the earnings last June 2017 increased by 30.68% amounting to Php 27,000,000 million with the average daily expenditure of Php 6,227.27. The study examines the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, highest educational attainment, civil status, religion, length of employment, ideal trip characteristics based on trip composition, preferred travel locations, with whom to travel, and how much to spend willingly. The study assesses the level of motivation (internal and external) of respondents and the differences brought by the demographic profile, trip characteristics, and level of motivation of the respondents. This study has a quantitative research design, specifically descriptive. The researchers use two sampling methods namely Stratified Random Sampling for staff and faculty and total enumeration sampling for the administrators with a sample size of 273 and survey questionnaire in data gathering. The researchers found out that religion and trip expenditure affect the travel preferences of the respondents. Surprisingly, salaries, age, and gender do not make significant differences in choosing a desired destination.
