Promotion of e-Tourism in a Digital Education Environment: An e-Learning Application within the Tourism Sector

Abstract

This thesis discusses a project to design-realize-evaluate an e-learning course for a particular tourist destination for real end users and travel agents and to discover a possible relationship between e-learning strategies and the design quality of the course. The lesson is based on a scenario orchestrated in pedagogical self-regulation theory to enhance learning outcomes. The study created an e-learning platform to educate travel agents and specialize them in a specific Greek destination. Greece is one of the most touristic countries in the world with increasing numbers of visitors from abroad. Despite this, the training of people involved in the tourism industry and responsible for educating and informing their collaborators worldwide is in a very early to non-existent stage. New technologies have not yet been used and integrated into the tourism industry, which reduces its competitive advantage.
