Supportive Continuing Education Training for Older Adults and their Perceived Work Enthusiasm in Public Organisations in Nigeria

Abstract

The study examines the extent to which supportive continuing education training for older adult workers influence on their perceived work enthusiasm in public organisations in Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions with corresponding hypotheses. The survey research design was adopted; while older adults aged 55 and above in the public organisations in Cross River state, Nigeria constituted the population of the study. Using purposeful and simple random sampling techniques, 381 older adult workers were drawn as sample for the study. Support continuing education training and perceived work enthusiasm questionnaire with reliability index ranges from 0.77 - 0.89 was used for data collection. Data were analysed using simple linear regression. The result of the analysis shows that supportive continuing education training for older adults significantly influenced their work enthusiasm in public organisations. The study contributes to the understanding of how supporting older adults through continuous learning could boost their interest for work However; it was recommended among others that for increase in older adults work enthusiasm, older workforce should be given opportunities and adequate supports to participate in continuing learning in all trending areas in public organisations in Nigeria.
