Working into Older Age, Changes in Productivity, Attracting and Managing an Older Workforce: Attracting and Managing Older Workforce in Universities in South-South, Nigeria: Implications for Job Productivity.

Abstract

Productivity is the rate at which an organization produces goods and services. This study investigates attracting and managing older workforce in universities in South-South, Nigeria: Implications for job productivity. It establishes the ratio of older workforce in universities in South-South, Nigeria, it also evaluates the older workforce retention policies and the level of its implementation in universities or comparatively analyze the differences in job productivity of the University workforce with regards to their age. It will also comparatively analyze the job effectiveness of older academic and older non-academic workforce in the universities of the study. To achieve the purpose, literature is reviewed through hypothesis formulated to give direction to the study. Stratified random sampling technique is used to select sample from the population from all the federal universities in the South-South, Nigeria. Data was collected with the researchers constructed instruments from the sampled academic and non-academic staff from universities. The reliability of the instrument was established through a trial test using Cronbach coefficient which ranges from 0.67 to 0.81. Data collected is analysed with a mixed method of analysis involving qualitative and quantitative analysis. Results are presented and recommendations aremade.
