Policy Perspectives of Elderly Healthcare in Bangladesh

Abstract

Elderly healthcare issues come to the front in the backdrop of demographic transition in the country. This study examines how elderly healthcare is addressed in relevant policies and programmes. A qualitative approach is applied and both primary and secondary data are used in the analysis. Findings of the study show that elderly people receive healthcare under the framework of the national health policy, but the policy does not have specific focus on the aged. Other policies and plans could not address their cases adequately. Social security programmes and parents care act indirectly addresses their cases by making arrangement of financial assistance. Elderly policy outlines health and social care arrangements for the aged, but services cannot be delivered to them until these provisions are made available in the national health policy.
