Detection and Management of Dementia in the Intellectually Disabled Population: Addressing Health Disparities in Aging

Abstract

Advances in healthcare have enabled longer life expectancy in the intellectually and developmentally disabled population, increasing the need for recognition and management of age related changes in neurocognitive function. This workshop will review challenges faced in the systems of care for this population, screening and assessment inventories available, and explore case examples of application of screening, diagnosis, and management strategies by workers in the field.
