Long-term Care Model for the Elderly in the Industrial Area

Abstract

This research explores the situation, problems, and needs of long-term care for the elderly in the industrial area. Thailand has started a long-term care development models for the elderly dependency. There is no other study of this topic In Thailand. In our research, we found the elderly dependency had an ADL score of 5-11,70.1 %, (the elderly have some movement and some self-help, need some help, a score of the Barthel Activities of Daily Living (ADL) in the range of 5-11 / 20 points), and an ADL score equal or less than 4, 29.9 % (can’t move, can’t help themselves or disability, need help 100%), 67.0% female and 33.0% male, aged 60-70 years 35.2% same as aged 71-80 years 35.2%, 66.2% of them completed primary education, 21.7% didn’t study, religion; 99.2% were Buddhist, and 45.1% were widow/divorced, average income less than 5,000 baht 88.2%. The elderly had a caregiver of 90.4% and no one to take care 9.6%, the elderly illness is 98.9%. The elderly have 78.9% gold cards, civil servant/state enterprise 10.7%, Social Security Office 7.9%. In terms of satisfaction with government services: moderate satisfaction 54.1%, low satisfaction 31.0%, high satisfaction 9.3%, and not satisfied 5.6%. The needs for long-term care services were at a high level (mean 3.47): 1) Community Service (mean 3.70), 2) Home Service (mean 3.43), and 3) Institutional Services (mean 3.11) Long-term care problems were at a high level (mean 3.63).
