Abstract
Victimization of elderly women in disaster-affected coastal areas in Bangladesh is not a new phenomenon, but institutional initiatives are out of line with other community development programmes. This study argues that elderly women, especially those who are widowers, are being victimized in various ways due to disaster vulnerabilities while there is no institutional care or even community support for these women. Following a qualitative approach, this study finds that both family and government support is extremely lacking. As a result, elderly women face various problems such as threats to livelihoods and degrading of social relationships with neighbours.
