Why University Students Do Not Achieve Their Goals with Their Degree?

Abstract

The level of students’ interest in university is gradually declining, affecting not only the level of absenteeism but also students’ ability to tackle academic challenges. In this work, a mentoring methodology is presented based on a process of students’ accompaniment when recently enrolled at university. Fifteen moral competencies were taught and implemented by academic and professional mentors between 2020–2022. As a result, a SmartPLS longitudinal model was elaborated. The seven working hypotheses were significant and explained how the moral competencies increased the understanding effect of achieving better academic results but also the willingness to succeed in future work. The model’s explanatory and predictive capacity was significant and makes it possible to replicate the project results in other educational settings.
